Thank you for your interest in applying to our school! Here you will find information on our admissions process, from application to enrollment, and the various requirements for each step of the process.
At the moment we are still accepting applications for openings in our 1st, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades for the 2024-25 school year. If you have interest in other grade levels, it doesn't hurt to reach out to admissions@fsmn.org to inquire about possible openings.
Admissions Philosophy
Friends School of Minnesota seeks to enroll students and families who will contribute to and benefit from our progressive Quaker educational program and community. Admissions decisions are based on composing a well-balanced, diverse group of children, who, in FSMN’s view, will learn well with and from one another.
Friends School of Minnesota seeks diversity in every aspect of the school community. Friends School does not discriminate on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, race, color, religion, and national or ethnic origin in its admissions policies, hiring practices or in the administration of its personnel policies.
Step 1: Learn about our school
Step 2: Apply
We encourage families to submit their application online as it simplifies submission and provides parents the ability to track the status of their child's application. To begin the Online Application process, Create an Account. Upon account creation, you will receive an email containing a verification link. Once your email address has been verified, log in to your account and Create A New Student Application for your child. You will then have the flexibility to log in and out of your account and access your open application.
A non-refundable fee of $50 must be submitted with each application. If you are applying for tuition aid and have concerns about paying this application fee, please reach out to Shane Zack at admissions@fsmn.org.
We will begin accepting applications for the 2025-2026 school year November 1, 2024.
After submitting the application, you will be able to track your admissions status at the school by logging in to your account. In addition, you will be able to print the completed application, monitor when the school receives any applicable supplemental forms and, if necessary, reprint the forms.
Details to note:
Teacher Feedback: As part of the application process we will ask you for a current teacher’s name and email address. An electronic feedback form will be emailed to the teacher and will be sent directly back to FSMN (please note, this is a confidential feedback form and must be received directly from the teacher or school. We will not accept feedback forms turned in by parents).
Academic Records: You will be asked to upload a copy of your student's most recent school records. This could be a full transcript from a current school, a most recent report card, or a report from your most recent school conference. If your student's current school does not maintain formal records or your student does not attend school currently, please contact Shane at 651-621-8937 or admissions@fsmn.org to learn about alternative records that will be accepted.
Tuition Aid Application (optional): As part of the application process you will be asked to submit a form indicating your intent to apply for tuition aid. Families interested in applying for tuition aid should begin their application at this point in the process. You can learn about this process on our tuition aid page.
Step 3: Schedule a student visit
Kindergarten Applicants
Kindergarten applicants will visit with a group of peers for two hours on a Saturday morning in February, March and on a rolling basis into the Spring. These are play sessions led by our staff. Applicants are assessed for kindergarten readiness across a variety of domains.
1st Grade Applicants
Applicants applying for first grade will visit during a regular school day from 8:15-11:00am. They will join their peers in our kindergarten class. Staff will provide feedback and run basic assessments to determine fit.
2nd-7th Grade Applicants
Applicants will shadow a peer for a whole day at their current grade level. Staff will provide feedback and run basic assessments to determine fit.
Step 4: Admissions notification
Applicants will be notified of an admissions decision no later than April 1, 2024. If the family is also applying for tuition aid you will also be notified of a tuition aid decision at the same time. An enrollment contract as well as information on completing the enrollment process will be communicated at this time.
